Questions, answered.
Everything people ask about temporary email and how MailU handles it. Something missing? Write to support@mailu.site.
What is a temporary email address?
A disposable address that works like a normal one, receiving mail, attachments and verification codes, but lives for a short time so spam never reaches your real inbox. Think of it as a shield between your personal identity and the internet's appetite for email addresses.
How long does my inbox last?
Each inbox stays alive for 24 hours and you can extend it up to 7 days with one click. Emails you receive are kept while the inbox is alive, then permanently deleted. Removal is immediate and unrecoverable.
Can I send email from MailU?
No. MailU is receive-only. That keeps the service fast, free and out of spammers' hands, and it protects the domain's reputation so your mail keeps arriving.
Is it really free?
Yes. The free tier covers everything you see here: unlimited inboxes, custom addresses, attachments and the full 7-day extension. Small ads keep the lights on.
Can I choose my own address?
Yes. Click "Custom address" above the inbox, type the name you want and check availability in real time. Names are 3 to 30 characters: lowercase letters, numbers, dots, dashes and underscores.
Do you read my email?
Your messages exist only to be delivered to your browser. They're stored encrypted at rest on our infrastructure, never shared with anyone, and destroyed on expiry or manual deletion.
Can I use MailU to register accounts I'll keep?
Please don't. Disposable addresses are meant for one-time interactions. If you register an important account with a MailU address, you'll lose access to it when the inbox expires and there is no way to recover it.
Why did my email not arrive?
A small number of senders block disposable email domains outright. The address is working; the sender just refuses to deliver. Try a different sender or a different service. Delivery on the internet is always best-effort.
Does MailU work on my phone?
Yes. The site is fully responsive and installable as a web app. Your inbox session also syncs between devices with the QR code on the home page.
Is there an API?
Not publicly yet. The site itself runs on a small JSON API, and a public developer API is on the roadmap as usage grows.
